Who We Are:
Global Brigades is an international non-profit that empowers communities to meet their health and economic goals through university volunteers and local teams. We work alongside rural community members to achieve their core development goals through integrated health, water and sanitation, and economic development programs. Based on its Holistic Model, Global Brigades’ mission is to sustainably transition out of each community once it has met development objectives relying on both the strong buy-in of the community members and a dedicated in-country staff.
The Role:
The PROGRAM ASSOCIATE (PA) is responsible for the successful preparation of Brigade groups in Panama, Honduras, Belize, Ghana, Guatemala, or Greece. This role is designed to work as the link between Chapter Leaders, student volunteers, and the in-country teams. The PA role description tasks can be classified under two main categories: Brigade Preparation and Program Development.
Brigade Preparation:
PAs take Chapter Leaders & Teachers through the Brigade Planning Checklist to prepare for their upcoming Brigade (in-person program) or TeleBrigade (virtual program). The PA acts as a liaison between volunteers and local staff, providing necessary information to the in-country logistics teams to support the work with GB partner communities. This requires constant communication between all parties and updating internal systems.
Program Development:
PAs are also responsible for working alongside programming staff members to help ensure an optimal student experience. The PA supports content creation for volunteer/student preparation and communicates programmatic changes.
The PA reports directly to the International Program Associate Manager.
Daily Tasks and Expectations (include but not limited to):
- Facilitate the brigade & squad planning process and timeline for assigned groups through email communication, calls with Google Meets, and being a general resource to teachers and chapter leaders
- Support Chapter Leaders & Teachers in the brigade/squad planning process including: fundraising, flight booking, logistics, and education
- Prepare and host informational calls and virtual presentations throughout each individual group’s planning timeline
- Monitor and manage all fundraising initiatives using the Global Brigades MyBrigades platform, working closely with other departments to track donations
- Routinely communicate with and prepare individual volunteers and entire chapters for their Brigade/Squad experience via webinars, phone calls, and email correspondence
- Content development (marketing materials, informational packets, social media submissions, etc.)
- Visit all assigned groups in-country to present, receive feedback, discuss future leadership, and support as needed
- Support with year-round volunteer engagement
- Support in-country program teams on program preparation, growth, and development
- Attend weekly team meetings to hear updates and collaborate on new initiatives
- Coordinate and facilitate virtual brigades as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with minimum 3.0 GPA or educational equivalent
- Must be fluent in English and Spanish, both written and verbal
- Strong passion and ability to communicate Global Brigades’ holistic model
- Reliable internet and the ability to work from home
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to present and disseminate information in a clear and concise way
- Strong English language skills, both written and oral
- Ability to match the Global Brigades voice, message, and branding guidelines
- Demonstrate empathy and advocacy
- Strong fluency in Google Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Meets, Google Slides)
- Able to spend extended periods of time seated while traveling to/from communities and lodging facilities, and participating on brigade in rural partner communities
Compensation & Logistics:
- Staff member lives in one of the following program countries and can commute to the local office on a weekly basis*
- Tegucigalpa, Honduras or Panama City, Panama
- *This role is primarily a remote position, with a 1-2 days in the office each week.
