The Leadership Institute itinerary was built for students looking to grow the movement on campus and dive into programming outside of their perspective Brigade or TeleBrigade. Participants will have 2 LI options to choose from: the full 9-day itinerary, August 9th-19th, 2021 with both virtual and in-person programing including travel to Honduras or the 4-day virtual itinerary, August 9th – 12th, 2021 with only virtual programming. The full LI opportunity includes 3 days of community programming guided by in-country Global Brigades staff that depends which program you are interested in.
Virtual-only LI participants will still receive a programming deep-dive guided by staff online via Zoom sessions alongside all normally scheduled GB Foundations, leadership development, and critical thinking topics.
All students begin with 4 days of virtual programming. For those who choose to travel to Honduras, day 5 includes arriving and resting in Honduras for the first day of in-person programming. This is followed by beginning to learn about Global Brigades’ Holistic Model, going on community visits to experience how your program supports partner communities, and how all programs contribute to Global Brigades’ sustainable transition plan for them. During community visits, participants learn about the infrastructure that ensures program sustainability, like the year-round Monitoring and Evaluation program. Participants will work closely with community leaders and Global Brigades staff to complete a variety of projects, including follow-up reports and new community assessments. Each evening, volunteers will participate in workshops and reflections built to foster discussions on complex issues surrounding health and development work.
NOTE that Day 6, 7, & 8 programming depends on the program you select on your 2021 Leadership Institute Application.
Leadership Institute Donation Goal
All interested Leadership Institute volunteers must meet a Donation Goal in order to participate. As with Brigades & TeleBrigades, this is not considered a payment, but support towards Global Brigades as an organization and for our Holistic Model. Volunteers who meet their donation goals are eligible to join us for their preferred choice of Leadership Institute format to see their fundraising efforts put into action.
Leadership Institute donation goals encompass staffing, content, volunteer ground transportation (if choosing full LI), food, lodging, and emergency insurance. The funding that the volunteer raised also supports all the necessary costs for program implementation, including allowing Global Brigades to continue providing Brigade and TeleBrigade programming to partner communities year-round.
If you are choosing to complete the full 9-day Leadership Institute, note that airfare is not included in the standard Donation Goal. However, Global Brigades’ travel team is willing to work with volunteers to book airfare and incorporate the airfare expense into the volunteer’s Donation Goal should they choose to do so.
