HUMAN RIGHTS BRIGADES

PANAMA

 

Please note: In order to uphold our commitment to sustainable development while creating more operational
efficiency, GB Panama will only be offering Human Rights Brigades from the second half of May
through the end of July. Please contact your advisor to schedule a Human Rights Brigade in Panama in 2016.

 

 

Volunteers shadow a foreign lawyer as they provide pro-bono legal consulting
and legal rights resources to community members in rural communities.
Volunteers assist Panamanian lawyers resolve family law cases, and volunteers provide workshops on human rights topics to empower communities.

 

   

  

 

 

  

Volunteers will shadow and assist lawyers as they
provide legal advice during legal clinics on a variety of legal issues.

   

 

 

In addition to shadowing in legal clinics, volunteers
also visit families to gather information for pending
family law cases.

     

 

 

Common legal cases include child custody, alimony,
divorce, domestic violence, and criminal cases.

   

 

 

Educational workshops are delivered on a variety of human rights topics, playing an active role in expanding the understanding and attitudes of rural Panamanians on complex issues that impact their lives on a daily basis. 

     
 

The Human Rights Program works in conjunction with
the other Global Brigades program to provide holistic
development to communities.

     
 

Volunteers engage in evening discussions and educational workshops.

JOIN OR START A HUMAN RIGHTS BRIGADE

Human Rights Brigades are organized through Human Rights Chapters on university campuses or workplaces. A minimum of 15 volunteers is needed for a 7-day Human Rights Brigade. Volunteers fundraise together to support the legal fees and logistical costs of their brigade. New Chapter Presidents are assigned a Chapter Advisor to help them start their Chapter.
