Volunteer Engagement Associate

Who We Are:
Global Brigades is an international non-profit that empowers communities to meet their health and economic goals through university volunteers and local teams. We work alongside rural community members to achieve their core development goals through integrated health, water and sanitation, and economic development programs. Based on its Holistic Model, Global Brigades’ mission is to sustainably transition out of each community once it has met development objectives relying on both the strong buy-in of the community members and a dedicated in-country staff. This role will also support Squads Abroad and Kambia, Global Brigades’ sister organizations.

The Role:
The Volunteer Engagement Associate (VEA) is an international role responsible for executing organizational goals focused on growth, volunteer engagement, and chapter creation. Working closely within the Volunteer Engagement and Marketing teams, the VEA  focuses on creating, developing, and retaining leads for all of Global Brigades’ in-person and virtual programming. The VEA will have the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities as they become available. 

The VEA reports directly to the Chief of Staff.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Lead Generation, Lead Management & Chapter Creation (50%)

  • Creatively generate new lead opportunities by attending external conferences, distributing marketing materials, capitalizing on internal opportunities (brigades, student leadership conferences, Campus Chairperson program, Leadership Institutes), and more. 
  • Pursue all leads (students, faculty, and professionals) that come in through websites, social media, and referrals
  • Nurture and convert inbound leads into chapters and begin the planning processes of their brigade, to help meet organization-wide growth goals
  • Maintain organized and accurate lead conversion information and activity reports in Hubspot CRM 
  • Provide engaging and articulate information about Global Brigades’ value proposition to potential leaders and provide customized support as they navigate the Chapter creation process
  • Interact professionally with potential volunteers via phone, email, telephone conferencing, webinars and in-person, cater to their unique needs, and develop a positive relationship
  • Work with Director of Marketing and other Program Directors to foster partnerships with official and unofficial partners to promote all Global Brigades, Squads Abroad, and Kambia programs


Leadership Development Programs (Campus Chairpersons and Chapter Leaders) (40%)

  • Support Campus Chairpersons to represent their campus, unite and empower their chapters, and grow the GB movement by providing mentorship and guidance as needed 
  • Facilitate monthly Campus Chairperson committee meetings which aim to foster a support network and provide guidance with common chapter challenges (ie: recruitment, fundraising, conflict management, university relations, etc.) 
  • Grow the Campus Chairperson program by identifying new Campus Chairpersons through various recruitment initiatives and cross-team collaboration
  • Maintain the Campus Chairperson base year to year by facilitating strong leadership transitions and executing various retention initiatives
  • Recruit, identify and support Student Leadership Conference (SLC) hosts
  • Lead coordination of conferences in conjunction with Campus Chairpersons by creating conference web pages, coordinating recruitment efforts, curating itineraries, and ensuring logistics are executed
  • Attend SLCs to present and facilitate conference activities, speak passionately about the organization, and foster meaningful connections with leaders/volunteers
  • Support the preparation and execution of the (virtual) Leadership Institute


Marketing, CRM Configuration and Support (10%)

  • Support with content creation for social media and blog posts that highlight the volunteer engagement initiatives for distribution by marketing team 
  • Support in the creation of  strategic workflows to drive lead conversion and retention across all audiences
  • Maintain communication processes for lead conversion, engagement, and retention across all audiences in Hubspot CRM
  • Act as a resource to maximize CRM efficiency across departments and boards



  • Verbal and written fluency in English required
  • Bachelor’s degree or educational equivalency required 
  • Previous leadership experience as GB or Squads staff preferred
  • Minimum two years work experience in a related field preferred
  • Experience with CRM (Hubspot) is preferred
  • Organized, with an ability to identify new projects and prioritize time-sensitive assignments
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking and confidence with engaging in groups (English) 
  • Able to adhere to the organization’s virtual work environment policies and maintain regular, consistent working hours (Monday-Friday, in the window of ~8am-6pm local time)
  • Strong communication skills; able to work in a virtual environment and adhere to virtual work policies
  • Strong passion and ability to communicate Global Brigades’ holistic model
  • Ability to present and disseminate information in a clear and concise way
  • Ability to match the  Global Brigades voice, message, and branding guidelines
  • Demonstrate empathy and advocacy
  • Strong fluency in Google Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Meets, Google Slides)


Compensation & Logistics:

  • Staff member is based in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua, USA, Canada, Europe or UK
  • Monthly Salary
