Global Brigades Canada has received funding for 23 part time Volunteer Engagement Coordinators  in 8 provinces from September 20th for 3 months and in some cases 4 months.

*Please note that if you do not see your Chapter location listed, we unfortunately did not receive funding for your location.  

To be eligible for the positions:

  • you must be a student of the listed location you are applying for,
  • you must be between the ages of 18-30 years old,
  • you must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for he duration of the employment, and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of the employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Priority is given to youth who are:

  • new immigrants / refugee
  • indigenous
  • visible minorities
  • LGBTQ2
  • women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
  • youth who have not previously been employed and for whom this would be their first job experience

Job term:

Positions are 20hrs/week at provincial minimum wage.  In most instances, positions are 14 weeks in length and in some cases 17 weeks.

Start Date: September 20th, 2021

Job Responsibilities: 

Stream 1 | Campuses that do not have a Global Brigades Canada presence

  • Attend an initial training and orientation session
  • Participate in monthly training calls
  • Create one or more new chapters on your campus, identifying one or multiple chapter leaders to plan and execute a TeleBrigade and/or an in-person Brigade
  • Recruit and engage volunteers in various events, fundraisers and local community service
  • Deliver information sessions and workshops at chapter meetings, community events, career/involvement fairs and classes 
  • Coordinate and host 2 community events
  • Attend virtual national conference in September

Stream 2 | Campuses that already have a Global Brigades Canada presence

  • Attend an initial training and orientation session
  • Participate in monthly training calls
  • Identify 2+ highschools in your community and complete outreach and engagement with the goal of starting multiple Squads Abroad programs. 
  • Identify 2+ faculty and / or staff at your University and complete outreach and engagement with the goal of incorporating Global Brigades into a course structure at your University. 
  • Meet with the Campus Chairperson and Chapter Leader on your campus and support in their processes of fundraising, recruitment and engagement on campus. 
  • Attend and support on campus and community events with the existing chapters.
  • Attend virtual national conference in September

  • Comfortable speaking at events and in front of groups
  • Enjoy organizing activities for groups of volunteers 
  • Interested in learning about the UN Sustainability Goals, Community Development and Global Development

If you are currently a Campus Chairperson, Chapter Leader or Leadership Team member: you are more than welcome to apply for the position available at your University. This part time paid role will be an addition to your volunteer position responsibilities. You must be willing and able to complete all roles and responsibilities for each position you commit to.

COVID-19: 

Our highest priority is the safety of all Canadians, Global Brigades staff and volunteers.  

In the event that your listed location is returning to in-person sessions, you will be asked to verify proof of vaccine.  You will be required to sign a COVID waiver to participate.  You will ensure that you follow all COVID protocols to the highest level as per the regulations of your location.  This may include wearing a facial mask at all times when interacting with other students and community members.  Using hand sanitizer and practicing safe social distancing.  

In the event that your location is not returning to in-person sessions, you will participate in your role virtually to provide on-line volunteer recruitment, information sessions and events.  You will be required to sign a COVID waiver to participate.  At any time that you are out in the community or interacting with other Chapter volunteers you will be required to follow your local community COVID protocols.  This may include wearing a facial mask at all times when interacting with other students and community members.  Using hand sanitizer and practicing safe social distancing.  

If at any time, you show signs or symptoms of a fever or cold, you must inform your supervisor right away and you will be asked to self quarantine for 14 days.  If at any time, you come into contact with someone who has COVID you must inform your supervisor right away and you will be asked to self quarantine for 14 days.  You may be requested to provide a negative COVID test if your supervisor feels that it is necessary.  

If you contract COVID during the course of the term of your position, notify your supervisor immediately.  You will be compensated for your sick time and you will be required to follow all necessary protocols to return to work.
