The Chapter Advisor (CA) role is a unique experience and opportunity to get involved with an international development organization for a year-long period or more. CAs play an important piece as an on-the-ground team member abroad working to support organization communication, retention and growth through day-to-day stakeholder support and chapter creation and tracking.  After a successful completion of 12 months in the role and home-stay immersion to get adjusted to life abroad, team members are eligible for additional opportunities within the organization that may support further volunteer growth, engagement, or monitoring and evaluation efforts.

Purpose Statement: The Chapter Advisor supports the chapter development strategy of Global Brigades. An international role that is primarily responsible for new chapter lead conversion, volunteer inquiry response and chapter leadership development, the Chapter Advisor works alongside the in-country and international  teams to carry out objectives and initiatives for chapter growth and retention. This role is an active driver of building the volunteer network and future growth of the organization.

Responsibilities Include But Not Limited To:

Chapter Communication Support

  • Respond to inquiries about Global Brigades via email, phone, and chat technology
  • Offer first line volunteer and stakeholder service and support
  • Support faculty and university administrator relationships


Chapter Creation

  • Pursue all new chapter leads that come in through Global Brigades website, program minisites, Program Associates, social media, and referrals from other Global Brigades leaders
  • Engage all new potential chapter leaders that come in from online marketing and referrals to start new Global Brigades chapters
  • Participate in occasional brigade visits to engage with potential leaders on brigade


Chapter Retention

  • Manage chapter contact database
  • Work with Chapter Advisor counterpart(s) and Volunteer Engagement Manager to track all current chapters statuses
  • Support Program Associate Managers in tracking brigade retention, ongoing engagement and ensure all brigades are assigned a PA
  • Facilitate Chapter retention and growth initiatives


Global Leadership Institute

  • Collaborate with the Leadership Institute Committee (VEM, CAs, Volunteer Engagement Associates and assigned PA/PI) to successfully execute Global Leadership Institute in Honduras and Nicaragua
  • Lead itinerary planning with input and approval from the committee and support assigned PA with planning logistics for the approved itinerary
  • After the Institute, follow-up with all attendees to engage new potential chapter leaders


Minimal Requirements:

  • Previous Brigade Leader or Campus Chairperson
  • Strong communication skills; able to work in a virtual environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and GSuite
  • Organized, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments
  • Advanced customer service skills
  • Creative and flexible
  • Able to travel to U.S or other Global Brigades program countries as needed
  • Competencies should include critical evaluation and ethical practices
  • Background in customer service preferred


Compensation and Logistics:

  • Staff member lives in program country, works in program office
  • Global Brigades provided homestay or other housing accommodation
  • Monthly Salary 
  • Receives work computer (Chromebook) and cell phone data plan
  • Emergency Travel Insurance provided
  • Eligible for health insurance subsidy up to $150/month (restrictions apply)
  • Visa and/or residency costs provided
  • Reimbursements provided for Spanish lessons

The CA reports directly to the President and Chief Operations Officer.
