Mission
To provide immediate, restorative and preventative dental services in rural communities without access to oral care otherwise. Our current focus is in Ghana, Honduras and Panama.

5 Year Vision (2011-2016)
Over the next five years we plan to mobilize 2,000 volunteers to facilitate dental care to 100,000 patients, receiving 10,000 fillings, 100,000 fluoride treatments, and 20,000 extractions.

What is a Dental Brigade?
Dental Brigade volunteers have the opportunity to shadow licensed dentists in urgent and preventive dental services in communities with limited access to healthcare. Dental Brigades also focuses on prevention with dental hygiene workshops. Between brigades, the in-country team maintains relationships with the communities to provide follow-up to ensure any dental procedures were successful and to conduct community health worker trainings to empower local leaders to perpetuate a consistent level of dental care. In conjunction with the Medical Brigades program, over 80 groups of passionate volunteers systematically travel to Central America to establish mobile dental clinics in over 80 of our community partners. Each of our community partners receives a brigade every 3 to 4 months where hundreds of patients are treated with fillings, cleanings and extractions, and are given dental hygiene workshops.

In 2010, Global Brigades signed the American Dental Association’s (ADA) code of ethics to adhere to its standards for healthcare in its partner communities during and outside of brigades.

Brigade Length & Location
Global Brigades offers 7-10 day Dental Brigades throughout the year in Ghana, Honduras, and Panama. Student volunteers can get involved with an upcoming Dental Brigade by joining a local student chapter on their college campus or creating a new chapter and recruiting a group of students. Dental professionals can also participate a brigade by viewing our calendar for an upcoming brigade and joining as a dental professional.
